Thonburi is the Bangkok most visitors miss — riverside temples, centuries-old communities and real local markets, all a few minutes on foot, by boat or by train from our hotel. This is the one-day route we recommend to every guest.

The full-day route

  1. 08:00 — Breakfast like a local: old-style coffee and patongko around Tha Din Daeng (spots in our neighbourhood guide), then wander a genuine morning market with zero tourists.
  2. 09:30 — Wat Arun: ~10 minutes to the pier, then the cross-river ferry. Go early for soft light and thin crowds. Dress modestly (rentals at the gate).
  3. 11:30 — Kudi Chin: the 250-year-old Portuguese quarter — Santa Cruz Church and charcoal-baked khanom farang cakes from the original family bakeries.
  4. 13:00 — Lunch + Sky Park: noodles near Memorial Bridge, then the Chao Phraya Sky Park — the world's first park built on a river bridge, with 360° views.
  5. 15:30 — ICONSIAM: one Gold Line stop — air-con, the indoor floating-market food hall (Sook Siam), and a rest before the finale.
  6. 18:30 — Finish in Chinatown: ~10 minutes across the bridge for legendary street food late into the night, then a 10-minute Grab back to bed.
