Asiatique is a market and restaurant quarter in old riverside warehouses, downriver from us. It feels nothing like ICONSIAM's indoor mall: it's open-air, along the water, at its liveliest from evening into the night, with a big Ferris wheel on the riverbank. Get there by train plus a free shuttle boat or by Grab over the bridge, and it's an easy trip back to the quiet side.
When to go
Some restaurants open from midday, but the market and the riverside only come alive in the evening. Aim to arrive between late afternoon and early evening: browse while it's still light, then stay for the lights on the water. Fridays, Saturdays and holidays are busier than weekdays, and the early-evening queue for the free boat gets long.
Getting there and back from the hotel
Train + free boatWalk to Khlong San station, ride the Gold Line two stops to Krung Thon Buri, change to the BTS Silom Line for one stop to Saphan Taksin, go down to Sathorn Pier beside the station and join the queue for Asiatique's shuttle boat. It takes longer than a car because of the two changes and the wait for the boat, but you arrive by water.
Grab or taxiStraight over the bridge from the hotel to Asiatique in about 15–20 minutes. Best for coming home late, for groups, or with small children; weekday evening traffic can slow it down.
Boat there, car backGo out by train and boat while it's still early evening, then take a Grab home from Asiatique so you skip the late-night boat queue.
What we'd doBoat there, car back: you ride the river in the best light and get home easily without watching the clock for the last boat.
What's there
The warehouse lanes: clothes, souvenirs and homeware shops in rows of old warehouses — easy to spend an hour browsing.
Restaurants and snacks: sit-down places by the water and snacks to eat as you walk, for any budget.
The riverside promenade: the spot for sunset and the city lights across the water.
The riverside Ferris wheel: a big wheel right on the river, running from late afternoon into the night — check prices and times at the entrance.
An evening plan from the hotel
4:30 PM — Leave the hotel: walk to Khlong San station, take the Gold Line to Krung Thon Buri and change to the BTS for Saphan Taksin.
5:15 PM — Free boat from Sathorn Pier: go down from the station to the pier and queue for Asiatique's boat; it's a short ride.
5:30 PM — The market while it's light: walk the warehouse lanes before the crowds build.
6:30 PM — The river and dinner: watch the city lights and eat by the water. If you want the Ferris wheel, this is when the view is best.
8:00–9:00 PM — Home: a Grab over the bridge takes about 15–20 minutes. Coming back late is fine: the team is on site until 6:00 PM, and it's self check-in after that.
Small notes: stalls and snacks mostly take cash — carry ฿20, ฿50 and ฿100 notes.
The evening boat queue: it's long around dusk, so set off a little early — and take a Grab home late.
Rain: the promenade and the open squares aren't all covered; on a heavy-rain day, pick an indoor plan instead.
With kids: it's all walkable but packed in the early evening; a Grab both ways saves several changes.
Ask us before you go: tell us at check-in and we'll suggest the best way for that day.
Common questions
What time is Asiatique open?
Asiatique's website gives daily hours of 11:00 AM to midnight. Some restaurants open from midday, while the market and the Ferris wheel come alive from late afternoon until late at night. Early evening is the best time to go.
Is there a free boat, and where do I catch it?
Yes — Asiatique's free boat leaves Sathorn Pier, below BTS Saphan Taksin (exit 2), every 25–30 minutes from 4:00 PM to 11:30 PM according to Asiatique's website. The ride is short; expect a queue in the early evening.
Can I combine it with ICONSIAM in one day?
Yes: spend the daytime at ICONSIAM, on our side of the river and one Gold Line stop away, then head down to Asiatique for the evening. The full route is in our ICONSIAM to Asiatique guide.
