Family River Day · Chao Phraya riverside, Khlong San
A Family River Day — a flat park, a short ฿5 boat, then a cool indoor afternoon, very little walking
🚶 Low walking · a flat, stroller-friendly park bridge🚤 A ฿5 ferry, about 3 minutes — kids love it🚝 One Gold Line stop to the ICONSIAM area❄️ Spend the hot afternoon in an air-conditioned mall
Travelling with small children or older parents doesn't have to mean a lot of walking. Our hotel sits right on the Khlong San riverside, so we built a low-walking day: a flat park bridge you can push a stroller across, a short ferry that kids get a kick out of, then the hottest part of the afternoon spent in an air-conditioned mall one Gold Line stop away — and home to a room close by.
Why this route works for families
In Bangkok with small kids or older parents, the hard part isn't finding somewhere to go — it's the walking in the sun and finding somewhere to sit down. Our Khlong San side handles both well. The Chao Phraya Sky Park is a garden bridge with a flat deck and railings on both sides, easy to push a stroller across, and it's only about 1.3 km from the hotel. When the sun gets strong, one Gold Line stop drops you at ICONSIAM, a riverside mall that's cool all day, with food and indoor things to do. Between the two, a ฿5 ferry ride is often the highlight of the whole day for the little ones. Everything loops close to home, so you can always come back for a nap.
The route
Start early, right from the hotel. Today is a low-walking day, so head out gently in the cooler morning. Bring hats, water, sunscreen and a stroller if you have one. Every stop today is chosen to be as close and as flat as our side of the river allows.
Chao Phraya Sky Park (about 1.3 km, a ~15-minute walk, or a short Grab). A garden bridge across the river with a flat deck and railings the whole way — easy for a stroller, room for kids to wander, and river views with boats passing on both sides. Mornings are breezier and quieter.
Ride the ฿5 ferry (about 3 minutes). The Tha Din Daeng pier is at the end of our lane. Hop on the little boat over to the Ratchawong side — kids usually love watching the express boats, longtails and cargo boats crossing back and forth. You can wander the far bank and ride back, or just do a short there-and-back for the boat ride itself. (Always hold small hands on and off the pier.)
Midday: one Gold Line stop to ICONSIAM. From Khlong San station it's a single Gold Line stop to the ICONSIAM area — a big riverside mall that's cool all day, with food courts, a wide range of restaurants and plenty of room for kids to roam out of the sun.
An indoor attraction for kids at ICONSIAM. The mall has several indoor things kids enjoy (at times there's an aquarium or an indoor exhibition*). Check the current days, hours and entry fee before you go — ask us at check-in and we'll tell you what's actually open this season.
A late lunch or early dinner in the mall. Pick somewhere with easy options for kids and rest in the air-conditioning before heading back. If anyone melts down or runs out of steam, this is an easy place to stop — no rush.
Home, one Gold Line stop away. Ride back to Khlong San station and it's a short walk to the hotel. If you're back after 6 PM, check-in is self-service — we send you the door details ahead of time on LINE or WhatsApp.
Go early: do the Sky Park in the morning to dodge the midday sun, and save the hottest part of the afternoon for the air-conditioned mall.
Strollers: the Sky Park is flat and easy; the train station and mall have lifts (check where they are on site*). Folding the stroller makes boarding the ferry simpler.
Small cash: the ferry is ฿5 a person, paid in coins or small notes — keep ฿20/50 notes handy.
If it rains: skip the park and head straight indoors — we have a separate all-indoor rainy-day plan (see the guide below).
Ask us: tell us at check-in that you're travelling with kids and we'll order the day for the least walking and tell you what's open in the mall right now — message us on LINE or WhatsApp.
Common questions
Is the Sky Park stroller-friendly?
Yes. The bridge deck is flat throughout, with ramps and railings on both sides, so pushing a stroller or walking a small child is easy. It's one of the gentlest places to stretch your legs near the hotel.
Is there easy food for kids around here?
ICONSIAM has food courts and a wide range of restaurants, so easy options for children aren't hard to find, and you can sit in the cool for as long as you like — a good midday base for a family.
How do we get back after the evening?
Take the Gold Line back to Khlong San station and it's a short walk. If you return after 6 PM, check-in is self-service — we send you the door details in advance on LINE or WhatsApp.
